What others say about the Ephraim Guest House

Posted by & filed under Blog.

home-pic2The Ephraim Guest House was a beautiful place to stay in Door County. We stayed there two summers ago in conjunction with a watercolor workshop. We painted right there on the grounds; the gardens are absolutely lovely! The rooms were clean, fresh, and set up for longer stays including a kitchen and sitting area. Our room had a large spa tub.

The Ephraim Guest House is a short walk to the main street of Ephraim, Highway 42. We breakfasted at the Second Story Restaurant with beautiful views of the Ephraim Harbor, and enjoyed a fish boil at the Old Post Office. The story telling is as delicious as the fish! And don’t forget an early evening stroll to Wilson’s for an ice cream cone or malt. Just look for the long red and white awning. Ephraim is in the center of all the wonderful things to do and see in Door County. It is a short drive north to Sister Bay and the “goats on the roof restaurant” also known as Al Johnson’s! Just north of there is Gil’s Rock with the Shoreline Inn and Restaurant. They make the best Mojito’s! The attention to detail in their dinners is amazing. By the way, Gil’s Rock is where you can catch the ferry to adventures on Washington Island, Rock Island, and Plum Island!Peninsula State Park in Door County

If you travel just south of Ephraim you can visit the notorious Peninsula State Park. The golf course there is one of the best in the area. The state park has many trails for bicycling or hiking. We have taken advantage of all of those activities. Don’t forget to visit the light house! Just south of Egg Harbor in Carlsville is my favorite winery, the Door Peninsula Winery and Distillery. They give tours and tastings, and they also sell Louie’s Olive Oil and Vinegars (their home shop is in Egg Harbor).

You cannot go wrong staying in Ephraim at the Ephraim Guest House, the center of all that is wonderful in Door County!

DSC00523Growing up in Door County I spent many summers picking cherries to earn money. We would be picked up by the cherry truck in the early morning and in the orchard before the dew was off the grass. Usually by 11 AM our lunch was eaten, and we still had many hours of picking to do. We earned $.10 for each pail of cherries picked. My sister picked 50 pails of cherries in one day and I was lucky to pick 1/2 that amount. When the season was over the orchard had a picnic for us which did not include cherries!! Later on I spent my summers being a nanny in Egg Harbor and a waitress in Sister Bay to make money for college.

Years later my husband Tom and I returned to Door County to visit and enjoy the flavor of the county again. We did pick cherries but no one paid me $.10 a pail, in fact we paid the orchard for the privilege. We stayed in Ephraim at the Ephraim Guest House, located in the heart of town. It is convenient to the harbor with its fabulous view of the sunset in the bay, Wilson’s wonderful ice cream, and the rest that the county has to offer.. I loved walking through their refreshed gardens, sitting in the adirondack chairs, relaxing in the spa, and just enjoying the peace and quiet of the Guest House. It is also close to parks in the area, such as Ellison Bay County Park, golfing at Peninsula Park, sampling all of Door County’s finest at Seaquest and stopping at Uncle Tom’s for some wonderful candies.HotTubCorrectedCompr

We hope to be able to return again in the near future to renew the memories.
